Gaeseong Complex Reaches $3 Billion in Cumulative Production Volume

The Gaeseong Industrial Complex has registered a cumulative production volume of three billion U.S. dollars since its opening eleven years ago.

The Unification Ministry said Sunday that the cumulative production volume of the inter-Korean industrial park, which went into full-fledged operation in 2005, reached two-point-996 billion dollars in July this year.

The annual production of the complex marked 14-point-nine million dollars in 2005 and surpassed 100 million dollars in 2007.

The number of companies operating in the complex increased from 18 in 2005 to 124 this year while the number of North Korean workers grew nine-fold from around six thousand to 54-thousand over the period.

Shin Han-yong, vice chairman of the South Korean management committee for the complex, said that for the future development of the factory park, the two Koreas should settle differences over wages at the complex and improve overall relations.
