Following precipitation on Thursday, the mercury on Mt. Seorak has fallen below the freezing point for the first time this fall.
According to the Gangwon branch of the Korea Meteorological Administration Friday, frost was observed for the first time this fall on the province’s tallest mountain early in the morning with the temperature measuring minus one-point-one degrees Celsius.
It is five days earlier than when the temperature dropped below zero last year.
The weather agency said that temperatures across the province fell by two to ten degrees Thursday, including in the counties of Hoengseong and Hongcheon, which both reported one-point-four degrees Celsius.
Temperatures in other major cities and counties in Gangwon ranged from three-point-four degrees for Cherwon and three-point-nine degrees for Pyeongchang to 12-point-two degrees for Gangneung and 14-point-four degrees for Donghae.
