Big differences in morning and evening temperatures in September led to a record high of afternoon highs in Seoul.

The Korea Meteorological Administration said Thursday that the average afternoon high in the capital city recorded during September was 28-point-one degrees Celsius, the highest ever since weather forecasting began in 1908.

The daily temperature difference was over ten degrees on 21 days of the month, more than double the number in past years.

Meanwhile, the average temperature nationwide during last month was 20-point-five degrees, similar to yearly averages.

Nationwide precipitation amounted to just over 55 millimeters, only 34 percent of the level in past years. It was drier in the central region with September's rainfall failing to reach the 20 percent level yearly average.

The meteorological organization said that high atmospheric pressure brought many sunny days last month, which widened the daily temperature range and decreased precipitation.
