Gov't Approves N. Korea Visits by Religious, Labor Groups to Discuss Joint Events

The Unification Ministry has approved a visit to North Korea by the Korean Conference of Religions for Peace to discuss holding an inter-Korean religious event.

Eight officials of the KCRP, an association representing seven religious orders in South Korea, will visit the North Korean border city of Gaeseong on Tuesday. They will meet with officials of the North's Korean Council of Religionists and discuss the date and venue for the inter-Korean event.

North Korea is reported to have proposed holding the religious event in the North around mid-October.

The Unification Ministry has also approved a request by the country's two umbrella labor union groups to visit the North next week to discuss holding an inter-Korean football friendly.

With the approval, members of the Federation of Korean Trade Unions and the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions will hold working level talks with their North Korean counterparts in Gaeseong on Wednesday to make preparations for a football match held among workers of the two sides.
