Supermoon to Cause Tidal Differences of 10m on Chuseok

A so-called supermoon will significantly widen the difference in tides over the Chuseok holidays.

According to the Korea Hydrographic and Oceanographic Administration Wednesday, tidal differences of up to ten meters will be observed two or three days after Chuseok, which falls on Sunday.

On that day, the Moon will be 23-thousand kilometers closer to Earth than usual resulting in a greater tidal ebbs and flows.

The administration warned the public to avoid excessive activity in tidal flats during Chuseok, saying the tide will rise fast and could pose a danger.
