VOA: Casualties of N. Korean Floods Reach Nearly 100

The Voice of America reported Thursday that heavy floods in North Korea last month were responsible for almost 100 casualties.

Citing a recent report by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRS), the VOA said 89 people died and 10 others remained missing in floods that soaked the Hwanghae Provinces and the special economic zone of Rason in North Hamgyong Province last month.

Previously, the floods were reported to have claimed the lives of 40.

The VOA added that around 23-thousand people have lost home due to the floods.

The VOA said the IFRS will inject 300 million won into a fund set up for the victims, adding that the money will be used to supply drinking water and hygiene products to those affected.
