Red Cross Begins Selecting Candidates for Inter-Korean Reunions

The Korean Red Cross will select 500 preliminary candidates for the planned inter-Korean family reunions at Mount Geumgang resort next month.

The Red Cross will hold a selection committee meeting Wednesday morning to determine the criteria to choose the pool of 500 people through a computer lottery.

From the preliminary list, the Red Cross will select 250 after confirming the elderly applicants' willingness to meet their family members left behind in the North and their health for a cross-border trip.

It will then ask the North to verify the living status of their family members after which 100 will finally be chosen for reunions scheduled from October 20 to 26.
