VOA: UN Conducts Fact-Finding Mission in Flood-Hit N. Korea

The United Nations has reportedly sent researchers to North Korea to assess the damage wrought by a recent flood in the nation’s northeastern region.

The Voice of America on Friday quoted an official of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) as saying that several UN agencies are conducting a fact-finding mission in Rason, North Hamgyong Province at the request of the North Korean regime.

VOA reported that the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF), UN World Food Programme, the International Committee of the Red Cross and other international non-government organizations are taking part in the mission.

The North sought help from the international community as it announced last month that the Rason special economic zone was pounded with more than 250 millimeters of rain, killing 40 people and affecting 11-thousand others.
