One of the North Korean delegates to the recent inter-Korean talks has called on South Korea to implement the agreements, while pledging that Pyongyang will fully carry out its end.
According to an official of Tongil Group, a Seoul-based business group owned by the Unification Church, on Monday, the North’s Workers’ Party Secretary Kim Yang-gon delivered his message to CEO of Pyeonghwa Motors Corporation Park Sang-kwon when the two met in Pyongyang last Thursday.
The Tongil Group official said Kim told Park that the North will implement the agreements, before he urged the South to also make efforts so that the two Koreas can build trust.
Kim also expressed regret over Seoul's recent mention of a "decapitation strike operation," saying it was not helpful for improving inter-Korean relations.
The plan, unveiled during a Korea Defense and Security Forum last Thursday, aims to preemptively remove an enemy in charge of giving final approval to use nuclear, chemical or other weapons of mass destruction, when there are signs the enemy is preparing to strike.
During the meeting, Kim also requested that the South stop anti-Pyongyang leaflet campaigns by South Korean civic groups, saying the leaflets are no different from the loudspeaker propaganda across the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ).
The South resumed the broadcasts for the first time in eleven years following the land mine explosions in the south side of the DMZ, but stopped operating the military loudspeakers following the inter-Korean agreement reached last Tuesday.
Park visited the North ahead of the third anniversary of the death of Unification Church founder Moon Sun-myung. Pyeonghwa Motors Corp., the only carmaker in the North, is a joint venture between the North and the Unification Church.
