Despite heightened military tensions on the Korean Peninsula, North Korea is allowing South Korean personnel to cross the border for entry into and departure from the Gaeseong Industrial Complex.
The Ministry of Unification said Monday that South Korean officials and businesspeople involved in the operation of Gaeseong factories have been entering and leaving the inter-Korean industrial park as usual since 9 a.m. after the North sent written consent.
A total of 843 South Koreans are scheduled to leave Gaeseong on Monday, while 515 others will enter the complex.
South Korea has limited the entry of its nationals into Gaeseong after the North’s artillery firing last Thursday, only permitting those essential to the park's operation to enter the complex. Among those permitted are people who are able to enter and leave the complex on the same day as well as workers on overnight duty.
