The government has issued an advance notice of a law aimed at establishing the basis for a peaceful unification as part of preparations for stable unification of the two Koreas.
The Unification Ministry announced on Thursday that it issued the advance notice of the law that aims to integrate unification preparation capacities based on a national consensus by setting up a peaceful unification foundation.
The envisioned foundation would implement projects paying tribute to achievements of individuals and organizations that have contributed to expanding national consensus for unification. The foundation would also engage in projects to collect, preserve and manage records regarding division and unification.
If the law is enacted, the central government and local governments will form organizations to undertake projects to establish a basis for peaceful unification. They will also assess the effect of key policies or laws on unification.
The Unification Ministry plans to collect opinions of the law from each government agency and local government before making a presentation at a regular session of the National Assembly this year after the law is deliberated on during a Cabinet meeting.
