Radio Free Asia (RFA) said Thursday that the current North Korean population stands at 25 million with an average life expectancy of 70 years.

RFA cited the U.S. Population Reference Bureau, which estimated that the North Korean population increased by 100-thousand from last year.

The population has continued to rise over recent years from 24-point-six million in 2011 to 24-point-nine million in 2014.

RFA said that life expectancy for North Koreans also rose by one year to 70 years. Life expectancy for North Korean men was estimated at 66, while their female counterparts were expected to live eight years longer.

Meanwhile, the South Korean population this year was estimated at 50-point-seven million. The life expectancy was 82, combining men’s 79 years with women’s 85 years.
