North Korea has hit back at President Park Geun-hye after she expressed regret over the regime’s decision to change its standard time, saying Park’s comments were an unacceptable political provocation toward the North.
In a spokesman’s statement Tuesday, the North’s Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland accused Park of being pro-Japanese and betraying the Korean people by taking issue with Pyongyang’s decision to alter its time zone.
It then branded the South Korean president as hysterical and confrontational.
Park said in a meeting with her senior secretaries earlier in the day that the North’s time change goes against efforts for inter-Korean cooperation and peaceful unification.
The North announced Friday that it would alter its standard time by 30 minutes on August 15, which marks the 70th anniversary of Korea’s liberation from Japanese rule.
