Former First Lady Visits Orphanage, Senior Home in N. Korea

Former first lady Lee Hee-ho visited an orphanage and a senior home in North Korea on Thursday morning as she began her second day in the communist country.

In the afternoon, she rested at the Paekhwawon State Guest House in Pyongyang where she is staying before leaving for the historic Mount Myohyang at around 4 p.m.

Whether the widow of former President Kim Dae-jung will meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has still not been confirmed.

The Kim Dae-jung Peace Center in Seoul said a welcome dinner at the State Guest House Wednesday evening was held in an amicable atmosphere attended by the 19 South Korean delegates and six North Korean officials including Maeng Kyung-il, vice chairman of the North's Asia-Pacific Peace Committee.

The former first lady will stay two nights at a hotel at the mountain and return to South Korea on a chartered flight Saturday.
