The head of the main opposition New Politics Alliance for Democracy (NPAD) says a visit to North Korea by former First Lady Lee Hee-ho can help disentangle the threads of inter-Korean relations even if it will not produce a significant outcome by itself.
During NPAD’s supreme council meeting Wednesday, Chairman Moon Jae-in rather emphasized the will of the governments of the two Koreas to restore relations, urging them to work hard to build momentum for the resumption of inter-Korean talks on the occasion of Lee’s visit.
The party’s floor leader Lee Jong-kul also expressed hope that the former first lady’s visit will give the two Koreas a chance to reaffirm their commitment to previous agreements for reciprocal relations, including the June 15 Joint Declaration forged during the first inter-Korean summit in 2000.
The floor leader noted that once an agreement is made between the two governments, it should be observed no matter what.
