Hyundai Asan Officials Visit N. Korea for Memorial Service

Representatives from Hyundai Asan visited North Korea Tuesday morning to hold a memorial service for the company’s late Chairman Chung Mong-hun.

The 22 Hyundai Asan officials returned to the South at around 4 p.m. Tuesday after attending a memorial service at North Korea’s Mount Geumgang resort on the 12th anniversary of the former chairman's death.

Hyundai Group Chairwoman and Chung’s widow, Hyun Jeong-eun, did not visit North Korea this year, opting instead to attend a separate memorial service in Hanam, Gyeonggi Province.

Chung is buried in the tourist region of the mountain, where the company operated Mount Geumgang tours until South Korea suspended the program in July 2008 after the fatal shooting of a tourist by a North Korean military guard.
