N. Korea Officially Invites Former First Lady

Pyongyang has officially invited former First Lady Lee Hee-ho for a four-day trip to North Korea this week.

A Unification Ministry official in Seoul said that the North sent the invitation to the South on Monday.

The invited delegation is said to be as large as 19 people, including officials from the Kim Dae-jung Peace Center, however journalists were not included.

The Seoul government plans to take all the necessary administrative steps for Lee’s trip.

With the final invitation delivered to her, the 92-year-old widow of former President Kim Dae-jung will depart to Pyongyang on a national carrier on Wednesday morning.

She will deliver medicine and mufflers to a children’s hospital in the North’s capital city.

It is not decided yet whether Lee will meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un during her trip.
