Gov't to Revamp Budget System of Inter-Korean Cooperation Fund

The government will seek to revamp the budget system of the inter-Korean cooperation fund to focus more on projects related to improving people's quality of life.

The Unification Ministry said Monday that it will shift the focus of the budget system from simply providing food and fertilizer aid to cooperating on projects related to welfare and health care, agriculture and livestock breeding as well as forestry and environment.

The ministry will also include policies related to people’s quality of life in guidelines related to inter-Korean projects under a law governing inter-Korean exchanges and cooperation.

Unification Ministry Spokesman Jeong Joon-hee said the shift in the budget structure comes in line with the changing times. He said various relief supplies, including food, can be provided within the revamped structure if deemed necessary.
