Gov't Not Considering Sending Envoy to N. Korea for Liberation Day

Seoul will not send a special envoy to North Korea for the nations' celebration of the 70th anniversary of liberation.

In a regular media briefing Friday, Unification Ministry Spokesperson Jeong Joon-hee replied that the government is not considering dispatching an envoy, when asked whether the government was reviewing contacting North Korea through back channels.

A senior Seoul official told reporters on Wednesday that there was a possibility that the two Koreas would hold closed door contact.

The two Koreas are gearing up to mark the 70th anniversary of the end of Japanese colonial rule on the Korean Peninsula next month.
