N. Korea Erects Extended Missile Gantry at Dongchang-ri

North Korea appears to have erected a 67-meter-tall gantry at its Dongchang-ri missile launch site in North Pyongan Province.

A South Korean government official revealed the intelligence on Wednesday, saying that the North had almost finished renovating its 50-meter-launch tower to be 17 meters taller.

The South Korean military and intelligence agencies believe that the bigger launch tower can be used to fire a rocket twice the size of the Unha-3 long-range rocket launched in 2012.

A Seoul official predicted that the North would attempt to launch a long-range missile from the expanded gantry on or around October 10, when the regime celebrates the 70th anniversary of the foundation of the ruling Workers’ Party.
