S. Korea Welcomes Iran Nuclear Deal

Seoul's Foreign Ministry has welcomed a landmark deal among Tehran and six world powers on Iran's nuclear program.

Following the accord in Vienna on Tuesday, the South Korean government issued a Foreign Ministry spokesman's statement to commend the efforts of countries involved in the negotiations.

In the statement, Seoul hoped for the faithful implementation of the nuclear deal to resolve concerns of the international community and contribute to strengthening the global nonproliferation regime.

It also expressed hope that meaningful progress and an eventual resolution can be made on North Korea’s pursuit of nuclear arms through sincere negotiations among related countries.

South Korea said the North should move towards denuclearization as soon as possible in line with UN Security Council resolutions and the September 19 Joint Statement of 2005.
