Strong winds and heavy rains will continue into Monday morning across the nation as the Korean Peninsula came under the influence of Typhoon Chan-hom on Sunday.
The Korea Meteorological Administration forecast Sunday that the typhoon will pass the Yellow Sea to head north on Sunday and reach Hwanghae Province in North Korea early on Monday.
A typhoon alert has been issued for the southern waters far off Jeju Island as well as seas off the southwestern coast, Heuksan Island and Hong Island.
Heavy rain warnings have been issued for the southern coastal areas, Mount Jiri and Jeju Island, with rainfall up to 150 millimeters per hour expected from Sunday through Monday.
Seoul and Gyeonggi Province, the western part of Gangwon Province, South Jeolla and South Gyeongsang provinces and Jeju are forecast to have 30 to 120 millimeters of rains per hour.
The storm is expected to bring rains of ten to 60 millimeters per hour to Chungcheong, North Jeolla and North Gyeongsang provinces.
