Taekwondo players from the U.S. will again attempt to organize a symbolic crossing of the Military Demarcation Line into South Korea from North Korea.
The Voice of America said Tuesday that Jung Woo-jin, publisher of the U.S.-based Taekwondo Times magazine, and Chang Ung, chairman of the North Korea-led International Taekwon-Do Federation, discussed ways to boost inter-Korean taekwondo exchanges during Jung’s stay in Pyongyang from June 19 to 23.
During the discussions, Jung agreed with North Korean officials to again seek to hold the border crossing event, which was canceled in April due to the North’s anti-Ebola measures.
If the event is held, taekwondo players from the U.S. and other countries will visit Pyongyang and participate in seminars hosted by North Korean taekwondo athletes before coming to South Korea through the Military Demarcation Line.
Noting that North Korea has promised active support, Jung said he expects a positive response from the South Korean government.
