Group Discussing Former First Lady's Trip with North Korea

Officials of the Kim Dae-jung Peace Center have entered North Korea to hammer out the details of former first lady Lee Hee-ho’s visit to the North.

A director at the center, Kim Sung-jae, and his four colleagues are meeting with members of the North's Asia-Pacific Peace Committee at the Gaeseong Industrial Complex.

The discussions, which got under way at 10 a.m. Tuesday, are said to involve the timing of the visit by Kim Dae-jung’s widow and the size of the South Korean delegation.

Director Kim, who served as culture minister to the late president, previously said that Lee is expected to visit the North no later than August 15, since his center has already agreed with North Korea on some particulars regarding her visit.

According to the agreement, the 92-year-old will visit the North via an overland route, stay at the Baekhwawon State Guesthouse and hold a meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
