Gov't Meets Diplomats to Dissolve MERS Worries

The government has held a briefing session for foreign diplomats in South Korea to dispel concerns among the international community on the spread of the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS).

The session on Monday organized by the Health Ministry was attended by officials from 78 out of 110 foreign embassies and legations in South Korea. Representatives of four out of some 70 international organizations in the country also attended the session.

Ambassador for Overseas Koreans and Consular Affairs Lee Ki-chul assured the foreign envoys that the South Korean government has a strong will to fight against the disease and the country will win in the fight soon.

The ambassador stressed that the World Health Organization (WHO) is saying that there is no need to issue a travel advisory to South Korea even with the MERS outbreak.
