S. Korea Confirms 23 More MERS Infections

An additional 23 cases of MERS have been confirmed in South Korea, raising the total number of infected to 87.

Of the additional cases, 17 were patients or medical workers at Samsung Medical Center in Seoul and were infected by the 14th patient in the hospital's emergency room.

The remaining six contracted the virus at two hospitals in the Daejeon region where the 16th patient underwent treatment.

It has been found that one of the patients received treatment at Kyung Hee University Hospital at Gangdong and Konkuk University Medical Center in Seoul before being tracked down by health authorities.

Authorities believe the severe outbreak at Pyeongtaek St. Mary's Hospital by secondary transmission through patient zero has been stabilized.

They expect tertiary transmissions through Samsung Medical Center to cease or decline this week considering the time it takes for symptoms to appear.
