S. Korean Scientists Develop New Display Technology

South Korean scientists have developed a new technology that could lead to higher resolution and higher pixel density displays.

Professor Lee Byoung-ho and Professor Yun Han-sik of Seoul National University developed the new method that increases pixel density by expressing a series of colors with a single pixel instead of the three primary color pixels—red, green and blue.

Their research, which appears in the latest edition of the journal Nature Communications, proposes using a metal cavity and a nanoaperture that functions as a dynamic color pixel.

While cautioning that follow-up studies are needed to practically apply the technology to display panels, the researchers said the method could contribute to developing various photonic devices.
