Samsung SDS has announced that it will launch a simple payment service for smartphones based on its biometric authentication technology.
Samsung SDS said on Monday that it is consulting with electronic payment service providers, including KG Mobilians and KG Inicis, with the prospect of launching the service sometime in April.
Using biometric authentication, users will be able to verify their identities via fingerprint or iris identification. The technology does not require digital certificates and is virtually immune to leaks or forgeries.
The IT services arm of Samsung Group added that it will also launch related projects with online service providers and security-related companies.
Samsung SDS became the second firm in the world to gain official recognition for its biometric authentication technology from the FIDO (Fast IDentity Online) Alliance, an organization that sets international standards for such technology.
