Disgraced Scientist Hwang Woo-suk to Clone Mammoth

Disgraced South Korean stem-cell scientist Hwang Woo-suk will conduct a joint research project with Russia aimed at cloning a mammoth.
 
Kyodo News Agency reported Tuesday that Russia’s North-Eastern Federal University in Yakutsk, Siberia and the former Seoul National University professor have launched a joint research institute devoted to cloning the extinct colossal mammal.
 
Kyodo said that the joint research institute will bid to clone a mammoth by extracting DNA from a well-preserved fossil.
 
Hwang, who succeed in cloning a dog in 2005, was later found to have fabricated the results of his experiments on cloning human stem cells.
