Korean Scientists Discovery Could Help Treat Hearing Impaired

A group of South Korean scientists have made a discovery that could be helpful in developing treatment for the hearing impaired.

The team lead by Yonsei University Professor Bok Jin-woong unveiled that sonic hedgehog signaling mediates regional identity of the developing cochlea in mammals.

The team said the discovery could be used to treat people who cannot hear sounds at certain frequencies.

The team’s findings are published in the latest edition of the U.S.-based Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
