South Korea is suffering from the worst winter yellow dust in five years.
The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) said the level of yellow dust and fine dust is still above safe levels after reducing the yellow dust warning in Seoul to the less severe yellow dust advisory around 1 p.m. on Monday.
Yellow dust in Seoul reached the highest concentration level, as categorized by the KMA, prompting the weather authority to issue yellow dust warnings in Seoul, Incheon, Gyeonggi Province and parts of Gangwon Province on Sunday.
The pollution was brought on by a strong northwesterly wind and low precipitation and low pressure in the deserts of southern Mongolia and northern China where the dust mainly originates.
Winter yellow dust is more harmful than dust storms in the spring as it contains more pollutants such as heavy metals.
Health authorities advised people to stay indoors or wear a mask when going outside.
