KTSat Selects SpaceX to Launch Satellite

U.S. commercial space company SpaceX will launch a South Korean broadcast and communication satellite.

KTSat, a KT subsidiary, said Monday that it signed an official agreement with SpaceX for the company to launch the Mugunghwa 5A next year.

The satellite will fly into orbit on the Falcon 9, a two-stage rocket powered by liquid oxygen.

SpaceX made headlines in 2012 when it launched a rocket to the International Space Station on a resupply mission for NASA. It is the first time that a South Korean satellite will use Space X's launch vehicle.
