Science Ministry: Russia to Go Ahead with Launch of Arirang-3A

Russia will go ahead with a plan to launch South Korea's Arirang-3A satellite, although Russia's joint satellite venture with Ukraine is at peril amid ongoing military confrontations.

The Ministry of Science, ICT, and Future Planning said Wednesday that it received a letter from a Russian contractor stating that it would not suspend the plan to launch the Arirang-3A satellite atop a Russian Dnepr rocket, slated for next month.

The ministry assured that the turbulent relationship between Russia and Ukraine will not affect the launch of the Arirang-3A, although it could lead to the suspension of other rocket launches.

The Arirang-3A is the first satellite developed with domestic technologies. Equipped with infrared sensor cameras, the multi-purpose satellite can send high-resolution images of the Earth, even at night, from space.
