S. Korea, Norway to Monitor Arctic Ice

South Korean climate scientists have begun a project to monitor Arctic ice to examine the cause of the cold wave.

Under a joint project between the Korea Polar Research Institute (KOPRI) and the Norwegian Polar Institute, scientists will freeze a research vessel into Arctic ice and monitor changes in the ice for six months.

KOPRI said it is the first time in the world that scientists will be observing Arctic ice in winter. Four South Korean scientists have been sent to work in the Arctic for the project.

KOPRI expects the research to reveal the relationship between global warming and the Arctic cold wave.
