New App Offers Virtual Museum Experience

The state-run Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) has developed a smartphone app which enables people to virtually experience exhibits on display in a museum.

The app allows people to determine the exact location of an exhibit using bluetooth and wifi and also to virtually interact with exhibits.

Using the so-called "avatar virtual tour," visitors will be able to experience the exhibition beforehand. They will also be able to see the bottom or back of an object on display which isn't visible to the eye.

The National Heritage Center in Daejeon is already using the technology while the system has recently been installed at the Hanok Village in Jeonju.
