Bloomberg Businessweek applauded Samsung Electronics’ ambitious pledge at the ongoing 2015 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas to make all of its devices Internet-enabled by 2020.
The U.S. media outlet said Samsung's pledge will turn the Internet of Things from “a playingthing for early adopters” to mainstream products for household consumers.
The magazine also noted Samsung’s plan to entirely open its platform, saying the company’s smart-home push has been long anticipated, but “few expected this level of openness.” It said the company is “rolling out the red carpet for developers and other software and hardware manufacturers to have at it."
It added that Samsung has “a unique combination of technological breadth and depth” and can create the Internet of Things at scale.
The magazine pointed out, however, that it could take time for consumers to start buying Samsung’s Internet of Things devices, even after the company makes all of its devices Internet-ready by 2020 as it pledged.
