South Korea has ranked second in the world in the development of information and communications technologies or ICT as announced by the International Telecommunications Union.
Korea gave up first place to Denmark in the 2014 ICT Development Index after maintaining the top spot for four years.
After ranking second in 2009 when the index was published for the first time, South Korea has held the top spot since 2010.
This year, Korea ranked second in the ICT skills sub-index, third in the sub-index of ICT use and eighth in the access sub-index, with a total score of eight-point-85.
But Denmark slightly edged out Korea with a score of eight-point-86.
The Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning in Seoul said the outcome is believed to be due to a change in the index's indicator relating to Internet service traffic among countries.
In the index that surveyed 166 countries, Sweden came in third followed by Iceland, Britain, Norway, the Netherlands and Finland.
