The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) said Thursday that the temperature in the capital fell below zero degree Celsius at around 11 p.m. on Wednesday.

The first ice of the season came a day later than last year and fell 13 days behind the average of the past several years.

Thursday morning saw the lowest temperature of the season in many parts of the country with temperatures falling to minus eight-point-six Celsius at Daegwallyeong, Gangwon Province, minus three-point-one in Seoul, minus two in Daejeon, and minus zero-point-five in Daegu.

The KMA said the cold snap will continue throughout the weekend.
