Global Team Sheds Light on Early Cosmic Era

An international team including Korean researchers announced that it found evidence that stars existed between primordial galaxies.

The team, including researchers from the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute, announced Friday that with an infrared camera, it observed starlight that originated from the space between galaxies.

The team said the extragalactic background light (EBL), the sum of all light emitted by stars in the universe throughout history, was initially created when the age of the universe was approximately 700 million to one billion years.

The team found large-scale fluctuations in light distribution greater than known galaxies alone should produce, and stars tidally stripped from their host galaxies are believed as the most likely culprit.
