Nobel Laureate O'Keefe Visits SNU

John O’Keefe, the British-American researcher who won the Nobel Prize this year, has visited Seoul National University.

The neuroscientist on Monday explained his research on the brain’s “inner GPS” during a forum jointly hosted by South Korea's Institute for Basic Science and the Royal Society of Britain.

O’Keefe explained how the specialized cells in the brain encode location and help people navigate the world. The Nobel laureate also discussed cooperation for research with other experts on neuroscience.

O’Keefe was awarded the Nobel Prize in physiology this year for discovering the place cells in the brain through the 1971 tests on rodents.
