Typhoon Vongfong Moves Toward Japan, Strong Winds to Hit S.Korea

South Korea's southern and eastern coasts will be hit by strong winds and rains from Saturday to next Tuesday, as typhoon Vongfong is moving northward towards Japan.

The Korea Meteorological Administration said the typhoon Vongfong, the 19th this year, developed on October 3 and is maintaining its medium-level strength, moving upward from the sea east of the Philippines. The storm is expected to pass to the east of Okinawa, Japan Saturday and will reach the southern coast of Japan's Kyushu around Monday.

South Korea will be indirectly affected by the storm with winds expected to get stronger starting from Jeju island and the southeastern area of the peninsula. On Monday, the winds will hit the country nationwide, while Jeju Island, the east and southeast are expected to have rains.
