The government will launch a pilot bilingual education program for infants and toddlers from multicultural families.
The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family said it will offer an educational program on parent-children interactions to promote bilingualism among multicultural children. The efforts will also include sending home visiting educators to multicultural families.
The pilot program will be carried out at six multicultural family support centers across the nation, including Seodaemun-gu and Seongbuk-gu in Seoul, Paju in Gyeonggi Province and Yangsan in South Gyeongsang Province.
The program is designed to encourage multicultural children to speak both Korean and the native languages of their mothers or fathers.
The ministry expects the bilingual education program will help nurture multicultural children into global leaders, while creating better communication and relationships between multicultural children and their parents.
