Typhoon Advisories Lifted as Neoguri Travels Toward Japan

Typhoon advisories were lifted for Jeju Island and southern coastal regions of the country as Typhoon Neoguri makes its way to Japan.

As of Thursday morning, only strong wind advisories are in effect for waters in the South Sea and near Jeju Island.

Typhoon Neoguri is moving east toward Japan from waters some 300 kilometers southeast of Jeju. It is expected to reach Japan’s Kyushu region Thursday during the day.

In its wake, the tropical storm left damage in Jeju’s Seogwipo City, causing one billion won in losses at a fish farm. It also destroyed some 300 square kilometers of tangerine greenhouses and 16-hundred square kilometers of cherry tomato farms.

This year’s eighth typhoon created blackouts in some 10-thousand households in both Jeju City and Seogwipo City. Jeju International Airport also canceled some 220 flights, but resumed normal operations Thursday at 6:34 a.m.

Eight schools also closed for the day and 92 shortened their school hours.
