Typhoon Neoguri Pulling in Hot Air, Heat Advisory Issued in Seoul

As Typhoon Neoguri is approaching the peninsula, sweltering temperatures have hit the central region of the country.

The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) issued a heat advisory for the first time this year as at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Seoul as well as in the southwestern part of Gyeonggi Province and the western part of Gangwon Province.

A heat wave advisory is issued when the highest temperature of the day is expected to be 33 degrees Celsius or above during the June to September period. The overnight low stood above 25 degrees Celsius in Seoul and Gangneung early Wednesday, marking the first tropical night of the year.

A KMA official attributed the heat wave in the central region to Typhoon Neoguri which is pulling in hot and humid air into the region.
