Researchers have developed a new method for imaging the digestive organs to replace invasive endoscopy.

South Korea’s Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) said on Monday that Professors Jeon Man-sik and Kim Chul-hong of the university's Creative IT Engineering Department developed the new method of imaging the gastrointestinal tract in cooperation with researchers from the State University of New York and the University of Wisconsin.

The researchers said that the high resolution non-invasive imaging method using customized organic nano particles allows easier and safer imaging of the stomach and intestine.

The new technique is expected to be useful in medical examinations as it can identify cancer as well.

The findings were published on the July 6 online edition of Nature Nanotechnology.
