A business source said Tuesday twenty-two conglomerates and financial institutions have recently provided financial aid of $5.02 million dollars to the Gangwon provincial city of Pyeongchang, which is eager to host the 2010 Winter Olympics. The source added that the firms included Samsung, LG, Doosan, Hanwha, KT, KTF, Gangwon Land, Korean Air, Asiana Airlines, KBS, MBC and SBS. During an on-site evaluation of Pyeongchang by an International Olympic Committee team last month, they assisted various promotional events at candidate venues for the 2010 Olympics and provided transportation and accommodation to the IOC delegates. According to the source, the companies also plan to spend an additional 10 billion won for promotions of Pyeongchang until July 2, when the IOC will choose a host city for the 2010 sporting event.
