Maglev Train Test Run Begins on Wednesday

A test run of South Korea's first magnetic levitation trains began in Incheon on Wednesday.

Developed by the Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials and Hyundai Rotem, the trains will go into service in July and run on a six-point-one kilometer track linking Incheon International Airport and Yongyu Island train station.

South Korea will become the world’s second country to operate magnetic levitation trains, following Japan.

Propelled with magnets, the trains are quieter and maintenance costs less than those of wheeled trains.
