'Jinju Meteorites Are Part of Shooting Star Spotted in March'

Scientists have confirmed that meteorites found in the southern city of Jinju were part of a shooting star that flew across the Korean Peninsula early this month.

The Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute said its analysis shows the shooting star entered the atmosphere over the capital area and continued to travel south. A burning meteorite falling apart from the shooting star exploded in the skies over Hamyang and Sancheong of South Gyeongsang Province, before landing in Jinju.

The institute added it is highly unlikely meteorites recently found regions other than Jinju are part of the shooting star observed on March ninth.
