Researchers Develop Power Generating Thin Film Solar Cell

South Korean researchers have developed a thin film solar cell that produces power from both sides of the film.

A research team led by Min Byoung-koun at the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) said on Thursday that it developed a thin film solar cell that produces power by absorbing sunlight from one side and indoor lightings from the other side.

The new solar cell is lighter than silicon solar cells and its power generation efficiency remained over 90 percent even under extreme weather.

The team expected the new solar cell technology could be used for windows in buildings.

The findings have appeared in the online edition of Scientific Reports.
