Institute: S. Korean Waters Not Affected by Fukushima Disaster

The National Fisheries Research and Development Institute says South Korean waters are safe from radiation.

The institute said it has monitored radiation levels of South Korean waters since March 2011, shortly after the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster in Japan.

The institute said the average level of radioactive cesium in the water during the past three years is similar to what it had been for three years before the nuclear incident.

Since 2005, the institute has been monitoring radiation levels in South Korean waters at 27 locations four times a year.
